First Communion Preparation

"Taste and see the goodness of the Lord."

-Psalm 34:8-

First Communion Ceremony

Baptized Children

Children may begin preparation in 1st grade through our two-year sacramental preparation process. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish, with opportunities for ongoing faith formation, prayer experiences, retreats, and family participation throughout the year. Classes run from September to May. First Communion prep is offered at all ages.

Through engaging lessons, prayer, Scripture, hands-on activities, and community experiences, children learn:

  • God’s love and mercy

  • The importance of prayer and the Mass

  • The Sacrament of Reconciliation

  • The true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist

  • How to live as disciples of Christ

Hearts of Grace

At St. Eugene, we welcome every family with love and understanding. If your child has unique learning or developmental needs, our Hearts of Grace ministry is available to help support your family throughout sacramental preparation.

Hearts of Grace is the special needs ministry of St. Eugene Catholic Church created to lovingly support children and families who may need a more flexible and individualized approach to faith formation. Through adaptive lessons, sensory-friendly activities, and family participation, we help each child grow in their relationship with Jesus and prepare for the Sacraments at their own pace.

Our goal is to ensure every family feels welcomed, included, and supported within our parish community. We meet once a month from September to May.

Unbaptized Children

At St. Eugene Catholic Church, we lovingly welcome children who have not yet been baptized and are ready to begin their journey of faith.

Children who are unbaptized will prepare to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Communion, and in some cases Confirmation through a process inspired by the Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC). This preparation helps children and families grow together in faith while becoming part of the Catholic Church community.

Our program is family-centered and parish-supported. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in their child’s faith journey through prayer, Mass attendance, and family faith activities at home.

Classes are available in English and Spanish. We also provide support through our Hearts of Grace ministry for children with special needs or unique learning accommodations.

If your child is older and has not yet been baptized, please do not worry — we are happy to meet with your family to discuss the best path for your child’s sacramental preparation.

At St. Eugene Catholic Church, we are honored to walk alongside families as children prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time. First Communion is a beautiful and sacred moment in the life of a child and family as they grow deeper in their relationship with Christ and His Church.

Our First Communion preparation program is family-centered and parish-supported. We believe parents are the first teachers of the faith, and we work together to help children understand the love of Jesus, the meaning of the Mass, and the gift of the Eucharist.
